In large part, it contains accounts of his journeys to and from the United States and England, complete with accurate accounting of time spent and miles traveled. In the letter, Dodge discusses his meeting with a Mr. Barnes (Jeremiah R. Barnes), the new school preacher, describes his "tedious journey" from Philadelphia to Evansville, and shares his positive impressions of Evansville and its residents.
