Benjamin Bales letter

The first item is a letter from Benjamin Bales of Moreland, Indiana on October 17, 1883, to his nephew Levi Bales, asking him not to join the Dunkards, do it. The second item is a collected page of Bales family history that was written by Tom Hamm.

The bulk of the collection is made up of correspondence between George Allen and his family, from 1856 to 1870, while the Allen family moved to Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. Scope and Contents This collection includes one handwritten fragment of the New Garden Friends monthly meeting minutes taken by Thomas Parkind, the clerk of the meeting, in Indiana on June 19, 1833. One of the causes for the monthly meeting was to certify that John Hans was a member of its society and that he was an eligible bachelor "clear of marriage engagements with others."
