The early correspondence from William Shields to his brother, written from the field of battle, refers to Confederate prisoners taken and his company's proximity to the Confederate forces. Coburn, Morris Morris, S. A. Fletcher, George Lockerbie, and Thomas McQuat. There are also five letters from William Sullivan to his agent, Jonathan Meredith, and others on August 27, 1838 concerning the sale of the map.
