Scope and Contents

This collection includes an account book from William M. Wycoff in Indiana from 1862 to 1875 regarding the estates of his father-in-law, Hugh Cole and his father, William Wycoff, both deceased, and farm accounts. There is also a blank school report card book, which belonged to Martha Reed and was printed by W.P. Levy & Co. in Madison, Indiana and a small advertisement for Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills, used as a bookmark.

Biographical Note

Willaim M. Wycoff was born in Indiana to William (1801-1882) and Sarah (Smock) Wycoff on Marcy 17, 1834. The Wycoffs lived in Pleasant, Switzerland County, Indiana. Wycoff married Ruthanna Cole on March 16, 1859 in Switzerland County, Indiana, and they had four children together: Indiana S., Hugh Benson, Harriet Cole (Etta), and Charles Wesley. Ruthanna Wycoff died in 1869. On March 5, 1871, Wycoff married Jane Whitton in Batesville, Indiana, and had three children together: Albert Barnes, Ruth, and Lydia. William M. Wycoff died on August 28, 1915 in Batesville, Indiana. He was buried in Cross Plains, Ripley, Indiana.

Hugh Cole was born to John, Sr. and Sarah Hannah (Marsh) Cole on August 23, 1809 in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Cole had one younger sibling, Sarah. On December 5, 1831, Hugh Cole married Nancy Marsh Cole in Switzerland, Indiana, and they had fourteen children together, including Ruthanna Cole Wycoff. Cole died on January 9, 1862 in Switzerland, Indiana. Sources:
