Scope and Contents
This volume contains a number of sketches by Libbie Coughlen in St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Vigo County, Indiana from roughly 1864 to 1866 covering a variety of subjects, including scenes at St. Mary-of-the-Woods Institute. Most of the sketches are done using pencil and/or watercolor and focus on landscapes, crosses, flowers, buildings and exercises in perspective. Not all of the sketches are complete and some cover the entire page while some pages have multiple sketches on the same piece of paper. Most of the completed sketches have annotations noting the subject and date of sketch.

Biographical Note
Libbie Coughlen was at St. Mary’s Institute (now Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College) in Vigo County, Indiana during the 1860s. She learned about drawing and painting, with a special focus on buildings and flowers.
