Biographical / Historical

Martha (Mattie) B. Bailey was born to Lewis and Martha Jane (Johnson) Bailey. She had five siblings: Etta, Lyla, Leota, John, and Fred. The family lived in Greens Fork, Wayne County, Indiana and after their parents' deaths, the younger siblings lived together for a time and Mattie kept house. She died on June 4, 1962 in Hagerstown, Wayne, Indiana.

John J. Bailey was born on June 25, 1876. He worked as a farmer and married Gertrude Cain on October 16, 1930. John died on November 28, 1953 and was buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wayne County, Indiana.

Fred L. Bailey was born on December 10, 1880 in Indiana. He worked as a day laborer, poultry farmer, and carpenter. Fred died of tuberculosis on April 16, 1918 and was buried in Greens Fork Cememtery, Greens Fork, Indiana.
