Biographical Note

It is believed that the Myers family pertaining to this collection can trace their American origins to York, Pennsylvania, and their European origins to Germany. The first Myers assumed to be of this line is Samuel Myers born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania in 1804. His family migrated to Union County, Indiana when he was a small boy and he is reported to have died in Grant County, Indiana in 1832. Myers married Susannah Kingery, who was born in 1804 in Virginia, and whose family migrated to Union County as well. She died in August of 1891 and was buried in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. Together the Myers had five children: Jacob, Rebecca, Mary, Sarah, and Noah. According to the real estate records included in the collection recent descendants of the aforementioned Myers family owned property in Marion County, Indiana.

Jacob Myers was born September 10, 1792. He married Lucy Corbin, born May 9, 1794, on October 19, 1817 and they had at least four children: Merritt, George, Eliza, and Narcissa. Jacob Myers died approximately April 24, 1872 and Lucy Corbin Myers died on August 29, 1881. The couple was buried in Old Bethel Cemetery in Bath County, Kentucky.
