Organizational History
The Sibleytown School operated in Terre Haute, Indiana from 1850 to 1864 and was located on the southwest corner of 3rd and Locust streets. The schoolgrounds were purchased in 1850 by the school board comprised of Henry Rockwell, Calvin Gobin, and William Naylor. The building was a two-room schoolhouse measuring 34 by 50 feet. Henry Teel was the first teacher and taught there for ten years. A new school building was built in 1864 and the students from the Sibleytown School were transferred to Fourth Ward School or Vorhees School. The brick building of the Sibleytown School was sold and converted into a residence.
