Historical Note
Washington Township is one of ten in Gibson County, Indiana. It was organized in 1824. In 1890, its population numbered 1,576 residents.
The District 2 school in Washington Township, Gibson County, Indiana had at least four teachers during 1879-1885: Lettie J. Huey, Ethel Hopkins, Mollie Shawhaw (later Mollie Nixon, and Mary Huey. Mary Huey and Letitia "Lettie" Huey were sisters.
