This collection includes legal documents of William R. Shimer ranging from 1858 to 1899 regarding property in Marion County, Indiana. The documents include a school fund mortgage, warranty deeds, quit-claim deeds, deeds on decree, and a summons from the superior court. Names of individuals involved in the land transactions with Shimer include Thomas and Lucy Hunter, John and Susan Hill, John Miller, Frank Teachout, Caroline and James Parsons, and Olin and Lillian Brouse.

Biographical Note

William R. Shimer was a farmer and early pioneer of Marion County, Indiana. Born on December 8, 1825 in Zanesville, Ohio to Elias and Mahala Shimer, he moved with his family to Warren Township in November, 1829. He married Elizabeth O'Neal (1833-1877) on October 31, 1850 and they had 8 children. After Elizabeth's death in 1877, he married Susan M. Dunn (1840-1920) on November 5, 1878. Mr. Shimer died at the age of 90 on Janaury 3, 1915.
