Historical Note

Pike Township lies in the northwest corner of Marion County, Indiana and was named for General Zebulon Pike, a war hero of the War of 1812. The township contains 28,160 acres of land and was created by the order of the county commissioners on April 16, 1822. For many years the township remained undeveloped and had few residents. By 1900, the census only counted 2,000 residents and the population had only increased to 3,400 by 1950. After... a number of improvements and construction projects the township has grown to more than 78,000 residents from diverse social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
