This collection consists of photocopies of three letters from or about James McLaughlin ranging from 1863 to 1865, during his military service in the U.S. Civil War. The first letter dated May 11, 1863 is a handwritten transcription of McLaughlin's missive to his father and wife, Phebe, concerning running the blockage at Vicksburg. This collection includes an 1862 letter written by John R. Wilson from Camp Dennison and sent to his wife in Muskingum County, Ohio. The heading of the letter gives the date as "Wednesday the 24/ 62." Since John enlisted with his regiment on August 26th, the letter was most likely written in September.
