The collection contains photocopied letters written by Calvin Benjamin to his brother Isaac. The letters describe his work in the Coast Survey service at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, his later joining up with General Zachary Taylor’s forces in Texas, crossing the Rio Grande and the battles of Matamoras and Monterey.
