Scope and Contents This collection contains photocopies of four letters sent by James C. Hanlin to his sister ranging from 1859 to 1863. Three of the letters were written while James was serving with Company E, Indiana 1st Calvary in Arkansas and he shared information about the weather, his health, attending services at a Catholic church, his regiment's movements, and a description of a battle he was involved in on October 25, 1863 near Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
