Scope and Contents
This collection includes seven scrapbooks and some miscellaneous items associated with them from Agnes E. Hinkle Ostrum and her daughter, Cynthia Agnes Ostrum, ranging from 1930 to 1957 and focus on the early lives of the two women, particularly their school years.
Agnes created five of the seven scrapbooks and focused her scrapbooking on her academic and married life and cover a wide variety of topics. Some of the key themes were wedding invites/announcements, material from her sorority (Kappa Alpha Theta), materials from both Butler University and Indiana University, both of which she attended as well as two scrapbooks dedicated to her high school; Shortridge High School here in Indianapolis. There are an assortment of photographs, newspaper clippings, pamphlets/brochures, dance cards, programs, tickets and a variety of items, including several corsages and a boutonniere.
Cynthia created two scrapbooks and her scrapbooks tended to focus on her extracurricular activities while in high school. One focuses a lot on the sports she competed in, mainly horseback riding and swimming but also includes material from different summer camps and activities that she participated in. Her second scrapbook focused more at her high school activities and had a lot of material related to prom and class officers (she ran for several different offices). Both scrapbooks contain an assortment of photos, clippings, documents, letters and cards and other material.

Biographical Note
Agnes E. Hinkle Ostrom was born in 1915 in Ohio to Albert H. and Jessie C. Hinkle in Ohio. She attended Indiana University in Bloomington in the 1930s and was a senior in 1936. She pursued her A.B. in Journalism and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, the Daily Student staff, Bored Walk and W.A.A. By 1940, she and her husband, Harvey F. Ostrom, were living in Indianapolis with their two-year old daughter, Cynthia Ann. Harvey Ostrom worked as a real estate salesman and Agnes worked periodically at the Indianapolis Times.
Cynthia Agnes Ostrom was born on June 22, 1939 in Indianapolis to Agnes and Harvey Ostrom and attended Shortridge High School. While in high school, she was a member of the school orchestra and she competed in a variety of sports including swimming and horsemanship.
