Administrative Note

The Indianapolis Typographical Union was incorporated in 1840 as an association of Indianapolis, Indiana area printers; joined with other typographical unions to later form the International Typographical Union. The International Typographical Union worked for the improvement of wages and working conditions for printers, trained apprentice printers, provided burial, pension, and other benefits to its members, and worked with other unions on issues of common interest to labor.
