Scope and Contents

The collection primarily consists of the correspondence and genealogy of the Gapen, Moore, and Davis families. Topics covered within the collection include family matters, person dealings, business and retail matters, and the U.S. Civil War (Henry C. Gapen – 5th Indiana Cavalry, Charles D. Davis – 9th Indiana Regiment Company K). The collection also contains a pamphlet of the "5th Indiana Cavalry in East Tennessee" by G. H. Russell (1864) with a short biography of Henry Clay Gapen.

Additionally, the collection includes photographs of the Gapen family: Frances J. Davis, Civil War period (1860–1864?), taken in Logansport, Indiana, Frances J. Davis with Great Grandchild (postcard photograph), taken April 12, 1911, Henry Clinton Gapen (photograph), taken ca. 1892, and the Gapen sisters (photograph), taken ca. 1904 or 1905.
