Historical Note
The headquarters for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was located at 35 South Alabama Street in Indianapolis, Indiana between 1897 and 1962. The building also housed the city court and city clerk's office before the construction of the City-County Building. The city dispensary was also located in the same building until it moved to a new location in 1909. In 1895, the police department created bicycle patrolmen for quicker response times. Motorcycles began replacing bicycles in 1909.
