Biographical Note

Georgia Eva Lockenour was born on October 1, 1898 to Alva (1868–1946) and Lyddia Florence (McTarsney) Lockenour (1871–1940) in Scottsburg, Indiana. Her younger sister Vallie Mae (1903-1905) died before the age of 2. The family moved around Indiana several times, first to Jackson, before moving to Bedford where Lockenour went to Bedford High School. The family moved to Indianapolis in 1922. Georgia Lockenour worked there as a music teacher, pipe organist, and insurance company file clerk. She earned her master's degree in music from Jordan School of Music at Butler University in 1947. Lockemour, a charter member since 1921, was elected secretary of the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Guild of Organists in 1956. She worked for American States Life Insurance Company from 1952 until 1962 when she retired.
