Biographical Note

Andrew "Andy" Weidel Wolever was born on August 12, 1852 to Peter (1802–1875) and Catherine (Weidel) Wolever (1812–1859) in Pennsylvania. He had several siblings, including Elias (1833–1902), Mary (1835–1887), Lavina (1836–1865), Peter (1838–1895), Susan (1843–1911), Catherina (1845–1907), and Edward 1850–1896). The family moved to Lafayette, Indiana after the death of Wolever's mother in 1859. Wolever opened a photography studio in 1869 in Lafayette, possibly with his brother Peter, also a photographer, with whom he lived in 1870. He relocated to Delphi in 1874 and he documented life in the town of Delphi extensively, displaying the images in his studio. He married Mary Alice Tutwiler on November 6, 1880 and they had four children: Clarissa Florence (1881-), Larrey Tutwiler (1883–1957), Lucy C. (1884–1940), and Calista Gertrude (1885–1962). In 1887 and 1889, Wolever was elected as the town's mayor as a Republican candidate. He was a member of the K. of P. lodge, the I.O.O.F. lodge, and the Methodist Episcopal Church. Wolever retired from the photography business in 1933 due to ill health and died at the home of his daughter Lucy in Gary, Indiana on September 28, 1936. He was buried in I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens in Delphi.
