Historical Note
Southport, Indiana, located in Perry Township, Marion County, Indiana, was established in 1832 and incorporated in 1853. George Tomlinson moved to Perry Township with his guardian, Rev. Henry Brenton, in 1823. Around 1847, he began a general merchandising business at Southport and continued in the business for twenty years before retiring.
