This collection includes a general store account book from Perry Township, Marion County, Indiana containing entries ranging from 1851 to 1861. Though the name of the store is not identified, a January 21, 1853 statement entered in the back of the book that records the division of business interests between John Daily and George Tomlinson suggests that it was used for the store Tomlinson established in Southport.

Historical Note
Perry Township, Marion County, Indiana is located in the south central part of the county and was laid out by the county commissioners in 1822. George Tomlinson moved to Perry Township with his guardian, Rev. Henry Brenton, in 1823. Around 1847, he began a general merchandising business at Southport and continued in the business for twenty years before retiring. He was in partnership with a John Daily for a time before they divided their business interests in January 1853. Mr. Daily may have been the same John Daily that opened his own store in the Marion County community of Acton in 1853.
