This collection includes three daybooks from a Williamsport, Indiana hardware store. With entries ranging from September, 1892 to August, 1894, each daybook lists name of purchaser, items purchased, amount charged per item and total cost. Most entries are in pencil. Though the store is not identified, the daybooks are likely from the E.L. Hottenstein store.

Historical Note
Williamsport is a small town located in Warren County, Indiana. Edward L. Hottenstein (1863-1932), a life-time resident of Warren County, opened his agricultural implements and hardware business in Williamsport in 1882 and operated the store for 50 years. Following his death in April, 1932, his wife continued running the business until selling it in June, 1940.
