Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a assignment book containing 3 handwritten editions of the "Barnett Academy Star" from 1865. Numbered 1 through 3, each draft lists two student editors and has articles, editorials, letters to the editor, notices, and poems and other short essays written by various students. The assignment book also has several undated lists of last names, presumably students, and an undated draft of a letter addressed to C. P. Ferguson by an unknown author.

Historical Note
The Barnett Academy was a coeducational school located in Charlestown, Clark County, Indiana. Named in honor of Allen Barnett, the school began in 1860 when Professor Zebulon B. Sturgus merged the Charelstown Boys' School with the Charlestown Female Institute. The school was mostly intended for local students, but it also had a boarding house and accept students from outside the community. Though successful for a number of years, Barnett Academy closed in 1880.
