Biographical Note
The Collett family of surveyors started with the father John Collett, who worked on much of the western part of the state of Indiana after coming over from Ohio. Two of his sons, Josephus, and Stephen, also took up the trade and worked throughout Indiana. Though constantly on the move, the family maintained a log cabin about three miles north of the city of Crawfordsville as a home to come back to amidst the surveying.
