Scope and Contents
This collection contains 36 nine-by-twelve-inch lithographic prints of the portraits of the Presidents of the United States made from reproductions of the steel engravings in the U.S. Archives (undated). The collection includes a "Presidential Fact Finder Wheel" that offers basic information regarding the presidents (copyright 1968) and an "Illustrated Chart of American Flags" (copyright 1963) that is approximately 35 inches x 48 inches when unfolded. All items in the collection were published by Book Enterprises, Inc. of New York.

Historical Note
Article II of the Constitution of the United States states that "executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." On April 30, 1789, George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States. Including Washington, 44 men have been elected to the presidency, with one, Grover Cleveland, serving two nonconsecutive terms as the 22nd and 24th President. At the time of publication of the portraits in this collection, Richard Nixon had just been elected the 37th President in 1968.
