Biographical Note
Charles Henry Scriven was born in 1880 to Norman and Olivia (Wilson) Scriven. He
grew up in Pontiac, Illinois and worked on the family farm. Mr. Scriven left the family
farm while in his early twenties to pursue a career in the ministry at Eureka College. He
married in 1907 and began a career as a preacher. In 1917 he stopped preaching and
went into carpentry, a career which lasted the rest of his life. He and his family were
living in Franklin, Indiana by 1920.
When World War II broke out Charles Scriven attempted to enlist, but was rejected because of his advanced age of 61. He decided then that the best way to serve his county was through war work. Mr. Scriven traveled from job to job throughout the country during the war. After the war ended he came back to central Indiana and resumed his carpentry business. He passed away in 1952.
