Scope and Contents

This collection consists of photocopies of the papers of Thomas W. Ervin. Included is a "Soldier Boy in Blue" which presents a brief account of William L. Ervin's Civil War service and also includes general Civil War History and a brief genealogy of the Ervin and Slater families. Also included here is "Random Reminiscences" which provides some childhood memories of Thomas W. Ervin, as well as a letter to his cousin William E. Ervin, a prominent attorney in Hartford City (1961).

Biographical Note

Thomas Waldo Ervin was born Oct. 8, 1884 in Hartford City, Blackford County, Indiana to William L. and Henrietta Slater Ervin. He left Hartford City permanently in 1906. He married Ora Hurlock in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana on June 26, 1912. In 1920 and 1930, they lived in East Chicago, Indiana, where he worked, first as an assistant superintendent and later as superintendent of a chemical plant. They later settled in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where he died on May 5, 1962. He is buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria, Indiana.
