Scope and Contents

This collection includes a typed letter from Esther Uhl McNitt in Indianapolis, Indiana to M. L. Moon in 1925. McNitt says she has heard through a mutual acquaintance, Kate Milner Rabb, that Moon was in possession of an almanac from 1751. McNitt encourages its donation to the Indiana State Library. At the bottom of the letter is Moon's handwritten response saying he is willing to donate the item and suggests Mrs. Rabb could handle the transmittal of the item.

Biographical Note

Esther Uhl McNitt was born at Logansport, Indiana. She was a 1909 graduate of Vasser College. She also completed graduate schoolwork at both the University of Wisconsin and the New York State Library school. McNitt taught history and English at Sheldon (Illinois) High School before joining the staff of the Indiana State Library as the first assistant in the Indiana Division. In 1923, McNitt became head of the division. She held that position until her death on September 30, 1941.
