Scope and Contents
This collection includes photostats and photocopies of a certificate of marriage recorded at Caesar’s Creek Monthly Meeting in Union County, South Carolina for the wedding of William Horner and Sally Compton. The certificate was recorded in Book A, pages 61 and 62 of the register for marriages of this Quaker meeting. The document bears the signatures of 31 witnesses. The wedding took place on April 3, 1823; the certificate was recorded on May 21, 1823.

Biographical / Historical
William Horner was born on February 14, 1804, in Cane Creek, South Carolina, to Jacob and Frances Horner. He married Sally Compton on April 3, 1823 in Union County, South Carolina, and later moved to Indiana to be a farmer there. The couple had four children which survived into adulthood: Nancy, Zimri, Dinah, and Rebecca. William Horner diedy on March 19, 1862, in Thorntown, Indiana and is buried in Sugar Plain Cemetery. Sally Horner died on April 21, 1888 and buried with her husband in Sugar Plain Cemetery in Thorntown.
