Biographical Note

Dorothea Giesche was married to Gottfried Roemermann, a cabinet maker in Badenhousen, Braunschneig, Germany. She divorced Roemermann on April 3, 1843. Dorothea then emigrated to the United States with her two children, Elizabeth and William, and established residency in Marion County, Indiana. On February 1, 1855, she filed a second petition for divorce from Gottfried Roemermann, who remained in Germany. Along with her petition for divorce, she requested custody of the children and alimony from her former husband.
