Scope and Contents
The collection contains photostats of trade licenses, oaths, and bonds in manuscript and printed form, in French and English, and lists of licenses granted for the years 1766 to 1790. These photostats were made by the Minnesota Historical Society in 1925 from negatives received from the Canadian Archives and from negatives in the possession of Professor Wayne E. Stevens of Dartmouth College. The materials document the British and French trade in the Ohio Valley.

Historical Note
Licenses were issued to Canadian fur traders under both French and British governments. The abstracts that accompanu this collection were created under the direction of Professor Wayne E. Stevens of Dartmouth College in 1925 and were typed at the Minnesota Historical Society during the same year. This project included the creation of the photostat copies also included and was cooperative with the Burton Historical Collection of the Detroit Public Library, the Historical Survey of the University of Illinois, the state historical societies of Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota and the Indiana State Library.
