Scope and Contents
The collection consists of photocopies of letters written by Sergeant George Stratton, 66th Indiana Regiment, Company B, to his family, 1862-1865. The second folder includes a newspaper clipping on the Stratton family and three pages of Stratton family genealogy notes. The third folder consists of a typed and bound photocopy of Stratton's personal diary from January 1, 1865-May 24 1865 transcribed by Robert B. Scott.

Biographical Note
George Stratton was born in Shelby County, Kentucky, in 1842, to David and Martha Ann (Shanks) Stratton. In 1845, he moved with this family to Washington County, Indiana (near Campbellsburg). He married Camilla Russell on November 5, 1865 in Salem, Indiana. Stratton died on November 30, 1918, in Harvey County, Kansas.
Of the ten Stratton children, four served in the Civil War: George and William, 66th Indiana Regiment; Samuel, 25th Indiana Regiment; and Seth, 107th Indiana Regiment. The letters include discussions of the Battle of Collierville; Siege of Vicksburg; and Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. The diary includes movement of the Regiment from Georgia to Washington, D.C.
