This collection includes two handwritten copies of historical sketches titled "Sketches of Madison, Indiana" by Blanche Eggleston Goode on September 25, 1915 in Madison, Indiana, containing city, county, and school histories. The first sketch (2 pageS) comprises general history of the area of Madison, Indiana, from about 1808 through 1813.The second sketch (19 pages) recounts the history of schooling and education in the Madison area, and goes into detail of the teachers, schools, and curriculums of the schools.

Biographical Note
Blanche Eggleston Goode was born on March 2, 1852 to Dr. Samuel Mackerness and Eliza Ann (Eggleston) Goode in Madison, Indiana. She grew up and lived most of her life around Madison, and married Michael C. Garber, Jr. of Madison on February 10, 1847. The couple had six children together: Guilford S., Hugh G., Michael E., Samuel M., and Gladys E., and Blanche A. Goode was active in many of the organizations in Madison, serving as head of the Women War Workers in the Spanish-American War, head of the Women’s Council of Defense during World War I, the president of the Jefferson County Historical Society, and regent of the John Paul Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Blanche Garber died on August 11, 1922 and was buried in Springdale Cemetery in Madison.
