Scope and Contents

This collection includes a deed signed by Samuel MacDowell and Mary MacDowell to William Scott in Fayette County, Kentucky from April 4, 1789 regarding land in Fayette County, Kentucky.

Samuel MacDowell, was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War, a pioneer and one of the first judges in Kentucky. There are several signatures on the back of the document, including Levi Todd, who was one of the few survivors of the Indian Battle of Blue Licks in Kentucky. He also was a General in the Indian Wars, a member of George Rogers Clark's Expedition to Vincennes in 1778 and the Grandfather of Mary Todd, the wife of President Lincoln. Another signature is from John D. Young, a prominent citizen of Kentucky in its early days. The last signature is from Michael Cusake, one of the famous Indian fighters of Kentucky.
