Whitelaw Reid letter
Collection — Folder: S2724
Identifier: S2724
Scope and Contents
The collection is one letter written by Whitelaw Reid on February 15, 1863, in which he declines the offer of the editorship of a proposed "loyal" newspaper to be published in New Albany, Indiana, for the reason of his being settled in or, as Reid put it, being a "fixture in the Gazette." He compliments the city of New Albany, although he realizes it is reliant on a Peace Democrat newspaper, and closes by saying: "If at any time I can be of service to you in the furtherance of your enterprise,...command me."
