Biographical / Historical

A pioneer cemetery in Marion County, Indiana was located at what is now the junction of Cold Spring Road and West 38th Street and contained the graves of Jonas Hoover, Abraham Epler and his daughter Elizabeth. Abraham Epler owned property in the northwest corner of Center Township and Jonas Hoover’s property was just west in the northeast corner of Wayne Township. The Epler's headstones were located close to the road and Hoover’s was located nearby and a little farther off the road. In 1939, a resident in the area sent a letter to the editor of the Indianapolis News regarding the headstones, noting that the Epler's were directly in the way of the construction of West 38th Street and pondered whether the graves would be removed. The present location of these graves is unknown.
