Historical Note

Shiloh Methodist Church was the first church organized in Washington Township, Hendricks County, Indiana when it was founded in 1823. The original members of the congregation met in the house of Robert Wilson. In 1828, Reverend Joseph Tarkington, grandfather of author Booth Tarkington, was assigned to the White Lick circuit and was the first authentically recorded minister sent by the Madison Conference to the small congregation. The members used a log structure and a frame church before building a brick building in 1902. Located on Shiloh Road (now County Rd 1050 E), the church was destroyed by fire in 1927, but rebuilt the same year. The church building is no longer used by the Shiloh Methodist Church but is now home to Grace Bible Church.
