Scope and Contents

This collection consists of various documents ranging from 1942 to 1956, relating to churches and church personalities in North Manchester, South Whitley, Fort Wayne, and Portland, Indiana. These materials include church histories, poetry, a church bulletin, letters, photographs, a roster, plus several captioned photographs clipped from newspapers. Nine of the nineteen items are newsclippings.

There are also a few materials which do not pertain to Indiana, including newspaper clippings concerning churches in Petrograd (St. Petersburg, Russia); Belgium; England; Honolulu, Hawaii; and New Jersey. One photograph shows a Lutheran church in Pennsylvania.

Biographical Note

Anna Krieg (1884?-1957?), one of two authors of "The history of the South Whitley Methodist Church," graduated in 1900 from South Whitley High School in Indiana. In 1920 she was teaching school in South Whitley.

Sarah Florence Glassley (1890-1954, co-author of the church history, was listed as a 1908 graduate of the high school in Columbia City, Indiana, residing, in 1930, in South Whitley.

Eugene Everett (Gene) Glassley, listed as director of music in the South Whitley Methodist Church bulletin, was born in 1897 in South Whitley, Indiana and died in 1963.

Ewart Talley, Sr. (1923-2004) served as a minister in several Indiana locations, including Portland, Anderson, Logansport and South Bend. He and and his wife Alberta had two children, Ewart Jr. and James, who are mentioned in their parents' Christmas letter.
