Historical Note

The Hicks Presbyterian Church was once located in Washington Township, Greene County, Indiana. Organized in 1854, it was first known as the Prairie Church of the Bloomfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the congregation had meetings in the Neidigh school house. In 1864, the church was deeded a tract of land about two miles north of the school. A church building was erected on the property by 1869 and the congregation was named the Hicks Cumberland Presbyterian Church in honor of Rev. William C. Hicks. On April 7, 1893, the church was authorized by the Presbytery to separate from the Bloomfield congregation and became known as the Hicks Presbyterian Church. Additional land was purchased in 1903 and a larger brick church was built and dedicated on June 4, 1905. The congregation was dissolved in 1951 and the old church building burned down in the 1970s.
