Scope and Contents
This collection includes two advertisement pamphlets for Karl Schneider circa 1903 to 1910. The first pamphlet promotes Schneider as a "Teacher of the Art of Singing" and contains a summary of his musical training in Europe and tuition prices. In the second pamphlet, he promotes himself as a bass baritone singer available for engagements of oratorio, concerts, and song recitals and lists samples of his recital programs and his repertoire. Both pamphlets contain his photograph.

Biographical Note
Karl J. Schneider was born on June 15, 1866 in Bubenheim, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in August 1890 and lived in New York before moving to Indianapolis, Indiana in June 1895. He became a naturalized citizen in September 1898 and married Susan Haywood in Indianapolis in 1900. A prominent musician and baritone singer, he received his musical training in Germany, Austria, and Italy. He founded the original Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and served as its conductor. He also served as director of the voice department of the College of Music and gave private vocal instruction at his Indianapolis studio. In 1910, he moved to Philadelphia to open a vocal school and later served as a conductor for other orchestras and male choruses there. He passed away at the age of 90 on November 8, 1955.
