This collection includes photocopies of a February 2, 1875 deed for property located in Veedersburg, Indiana that were donated by Ken Keeley. The deed was coveyed to Wyatt Tygnor (Tignor) and was signed by Peter S. Veeder, Christopher Keeling, and Sarah Keeling and witnessed by William Baker, Notary Public.

The collection also includes the correspondence of Louise Bulk and Wilhelm (later changed to William) Scheidt. The letters are written in German, with one letter dated August 8, 1868 and the remaining letters written in 1870. The collection also has two small cards tied together, one with Mary Roesgen printed on it and the other with Fred Volland's name, most likely part of a marriage announcement.

Historical Note

The town of Veedersburg is located in Fountain County, Indiana. The small community was laid out by Peter S. Veeder, Christopher Keeling and W.L.D. Cochran in 1871 and incorporated in 1872. Initially spelled Veederburgh, the "h" was dropped in 1893.

Biographical Note

William Scheidt was born November 13, 1843 in Germany to Wilhelm and Anne Marie (Meyer) Scheidt. When he was six years old, he moved to the United States with his widowed mother and siblings and they settled in Columbus, Indiana. Scheidt married Louise Bulk (1850-1920) in 1871 and they had five children. The family lived in Columbus and Indianapolis before moving to Kokomo. He died at the age of 84 on May 30, 1928.
