Historical Note

Washington Township is located in the northern part of Marion County, Indiana and the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township was formed in 1955. Allisonville School is one of the elementary schools in the district and it opened its doors to its first students in September 1960. In April 1964, the school was selected to be a Knapp School Libraries Project Demostration Center and received a $100,000 grant. The grant money was used to enlarge the library, hire two full-time librarians, and purchase more books, film strips and recordings. Ball State University served as Allisonville School's cooperating teacher education institution during the project. The purpose of the program was "to demonstrate the educational value of a full program of school library services."
