Dillman’s history includes a list of the twenty charter members, describes the process and cost of constructing the first church building, and mentions the preachers and other notable members of the congregation. Historical Note

The Clear Creek Christian Church in Monroe County, Indiana was organized in July 1838 with twenty charter members. For the next several years, the church members met in private homes. In 1845, the congregation began to prepare for the building of a suitable house of worship. The ground for the building was donated by Benjamin Mathers and the foundation was laid in the spring of 1847. The building was completed in 1848 and was used by the congregation until it burned down in April 1916. Plans to build a new church were immediately begun and a new house of worship was dedicated on April 15, 1917. By the time the church celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1938, the church was considered to have the largest membership of any rural church in Indiana.
