Historical Note
Mt. Gilead Church began in a school house near Sinking Creek in Madison Township, Morgan County, Indiana on March 22, 1835 with a small group of eighteen believers. On April 5, Enoch Summers and Andrew McNab were appointed elders. The church met in a log cabin owned by Thomas McNabb before a frame structure was built in 1839. A new church was built in 1859 and served the congregation for 62 years before being replaced by a new building in 1920. Other, larger facilities were built in 1978 and 2000 to accomodate the growing membership of the church.
