Historical Note
The First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ of Frankfort, Indiana was established March 22, 1868 by evangelists Austin Council and Richard C. Flower. There were fifteen charter members, all women except for Urban C. McKinsey who served as Elder. The founding of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in America grew out of two religious movements in the early 19th century led by Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone, Presbyterian ministers who wanted to restore Christian unity by returning to New Testament faith and practices.
