Historical Note
Franklin County, Indiana was established in 1811. The Sanes Creek runs through Posey Township in the northwestern part of the county. The Church of God on Sain's Creek was established at a meeting held May 30, 1860 and several family members of the Adams and Linville families were founding members of the church. The location of the church is not known, but the church building was erected on land donated by John Linville, an early settler who entered land in Posey Township in 1836. It is also unknown when the church closed, but former member Sarah Melissa (Linville) Berry (1848-1942) found that the church building was being used to store machinery and farm implements when she visited in 1899.
