Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials related to the Adult Education Association during the 1960s. Items have been divided into six folders.
Folder 1: Board of Directors
This folder includes all items related to, or produced by, the board of directors or its members. Such materials include correspondence; board meeting announcements, agendas and minutes; the association constitution and subsequent amendments; special meeting minutes; board directories; and treasurer’s reports.
Folder 2: AEA-I Newsletter
This folder contains copies of the association newsletter, "Adult Horizons." This collection contains the first three volumes of the newsletter, spanning 1964-1966.
Folder 3: Annual Conference
This folder includes materials related to the planning, preparation and execution of the annual conference. Items include correspondence, conference programs, press releases, and planning notes.
Folder 4: Annual Meeting and Membership
This folder contains materials about membership and the annual members’ meeting, usually held during the annual conference. Included are member directories, meeting minutes, announcements, agendas, special resolutions and member surveys.
Folder 5: Indiana Railway Museum
The folder contains correspondence between Robert McClarren and Don Montgomery regarding the publication of the Indiana Railway Museum newsletter, "Smoke and Sparks." The folder also contains several copies of that newsletter.
Folder 6: Miscellaneous
The last folder contains all other miscellaneous items. They include a first day of issue stamp, an invitation to a meeting of Ohio and Indiana trustees, a report by the Task Force on Common Concerns, a copy of the newspaper column "Chat and Chatter," an essay on elementary libraries and an Indiana districts map.

Historical Note
The Adult Education Association of Indiana was developed in 1940 in order to promote and encourage adult education activities for citizens of Indiana communities. Members of the association included volunteers, professional educators, and anyone interested in the field of adult education. The association, originally called the Indiana State Association for Adult Education, adopted the name Adult Education Association in 1960.
