Scope and Contents
This collection includes the Indiana Common Schools diploma awarded to Bradford Richarson of District No. 6, Hensley Township, Johnson County, Indiana. Signed June 14, 1901 by the county superintendent and trustee, the certificate states that Richardson had passed a "creditable examination in Orthography, Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Geography, English, Grammar, Physiology and United States History."

Biographical Note
Lewis Bradford Richardson was born August 25, 1884 in Hensley Township, Johnson County, Indiana to Bluford and Louisa (Burgett) Richardson. He attended local schools and received a diploma from the Indiana Common Schools in 1901. A farmer by trade, he also wrote poetry and created and wrote the "Corn-tassel City Items" for the Franklin Democrat under the pen name of Rev. Chuck Huddleston. Married and divorced twice, he was the father of 10 children. He died at the age of 67 on November 2, 1951.
