Scope and Contents

This collection contains a typewritten copy of "Reminiscence," a manuscipt written by Robert E. Boughey of Kendallville, Indiana in 1974. Written in four parts, Boughey covers a number of topics, including the early history of Native Americans, pioneer life, his childhood home, farming, education and the Zion church, the Albion (Ind.) Field Day, and stories of the extended Boughey family. Besides family, Boughey also reminisces about neighbor James Harvey and the life and criminal activity of Noble County native Marvin Kuhns. The collection also includes a photocopy of a short biography of Dr. Boughey circa 1970s from an unknown publication.

Biographical / Historical

Robert Earl Boughey was born August 24, 1894 in Noble County, Indiana to John and Eliza (Rogers) Boughey. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1911, and following his service in World War I, he attended and graduated from Ferris Institute in Big Rapids, Michigan (now Ferris State University) in 1920. Boughey later studied at the Chicago College of Naprapathy and practiced as a naprapath for many years in Kendallville. He married Geraldine Forbes Wert on December 19, 1945. Boughey passed away at the age of 88 on October 28, 1982.
